CMA’s engineering principals have over a man-century of combined experience in aviation, research and development, analysis and military electronics across a wide range of applications.
Rod Chapman, President
Rod Chapman is an electrical engineer with over forty three years experience in designing, producing and maintaining electronic and electrical systems. Mr. Chapman began his professional career as an Engineer-in-Training in the telecommunications industry where he was responsible for operating and maintaining telephone equipment in a high reliability fast paced environment. Mr. Chapman then moved to the oil industry where he designed, built, operated and maintained field instrumentation for use in the oil industry. These instruments included acoustic, electromagnetic, and nuclear spectroscopy-based instruments used down hole to identify and measure hydrocarbon materials. Mr. Chapman then moved to the defense industry where he designed, built, fielded and maintained a wide variety of weapon and field test systems. This included fuze applications, obscurant devices, classified weapon systems, multiple test support systems, robotic systems, Time, Space, Position Systems and more. Mr. Chapman is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
Tom Mills, General Manager
Tom Mills is a mechanical engineer with over twenty eight years experience performing research, development, test and evaluation in the space program and the defense industry. Mr. Mills began his career performing internal research and development related to space shuttle processing improvements at Kennedy space center. He then moved to a small business defense contractor who was eventually purchased by General Dynamics. Tom moved on to become a founding owner of CMA Technologies. In this period, Mr. Mills was the lead engineer for programs to develop ultra-high pressure industrial processing techniques, robotic vision accessories, acoustic-based particle detectors, obscurant countermeasures and materials, high sensitivity aerosol measurement instruments, unique pyrophoric materials, low drag missile technology, mechanically timed countermeasures, and classified weapon systems. Mr. Mills also has significant experience leading development of techniques and software for advanced studies and analysis to include non-lethal weapon military worth analysis, non-kinetic and non-conventional weaponeering tools, and supply chain risk analysis software. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Florida, holds a Master Certificate in Program management from Villanova University and is a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
Dave Thomas, Senior Engineer
Dave Thomas is a Senior Staff Engineer at CMA Technologies with over thirty seven years experience. His responsibilities including new product development, principal design engineer, new technology development, project execution, manufacturing operations and TSPI systems SME. Previously, as President and Owner of MicroBee Systems Mr. Thomas had responsibility for all operations, as well as serving as the principal design engineer. Mr. Thomas has developed and designed a wide array of TSPI Sensor systems and embedded computing products that encompass digital and analog circuit design, FPGA code development, PCB layout, and embedded software. In addition, many of the systems include complex mechanical integration and full qualification testing including EMI/EMC, vibration, thermal, shock, etc. Prior to founding MicroBee Systems Mr. Thomas was employed on Redstone Arsenal as a test engineering designing TSPI systems and performing subsystems testing for aviation and missile systems. Mr. Thomas started his career as an engineer with the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group in Seattle working with aviation and avionics systems including flight test, avionics systems integration testing and the 777 airliner fly by wire system.
